Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns
“As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away”
There is a certain beauty in a storm. Fierce winds and torrential rains give way to sunshine, and the promise of a new day. I love the way everything smells fresh and new after the rain. So too are the storms of life, be they physical, mental, or spiritual. If we trust in Him, we will weather whatever comes our way. The apostles showed great fear when the wind and the waves appeared to threaten their very lives, as Jesus slept in the back of the boat. When they cried out “Don’t you care?!” to Jesus, Jesus rebuked the storm and at His word it was immediately calmed. Faith is trusting that God is in control, but first we have to come that place where we realize that we are powerless. In our weakness His strength is made complete. “For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.” (Psalm 33:4 ESV) Don’t ever think that God doesn’t have a wonderful plan for your life. Praise Him in your storm, and if you listen close He will whisper “I’m with you”.
This was just what I needed to hear!
We were recently visited by Issac, (not the son of Abraham), but the storm.
” If we trust in Him, we will weather whatever comes our way”. This is so true! We are in this world but not of this world. Our lives are only a journey through a storm that hopefully ends with “the way everything smells fresh and new after the rain” with Jesus for eternity.

Thanks John. That’s why they call it the “good news”. It doesn’t say seek happiness – it says seek ye the kingdom of God. That’s where we find peace and, if even for a moment, joy unspeakable. God promises His word will not return void, and he is faithful – that’s not just good news, that’s the best news ;).

When my eyes open in the morning and it’s earlier than need be for me to get out of bed I try to talk to God. He knows all of my needs and desires. He knows what is in my heart. So why continue?
“Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven”. Matthew 18:3
Did you ever notice that little children never stop asking for what they want? It seems that their desire for whatever it may be is only exceeded by their untiring efforts to beg and plead with their parents until it is given to them.
Of course parents must determine if what the children are asking for is good and appropriate for their children. Parents will always hear the requests of their children even if they sometimes have to say no for the good of the child.
Included in my morning prayer is a request for forgiveness of my sins, protection and health of family and friends and thanksgiving for all that God had done, is doing and will do for me.
He has heard it all from me time and time again but I believe that He never tires of hearing it.
So I will go to Him like a little child and pray unceasingly for what it is that I should be thankful for and for what I think that I need.
God knows what is in my heart and what I truly need. He will answer my prayers. At times He showers down blessings like rain. At other times because He knows what His child really needs all that I hear or see is silence. It is at those times He is being a Father and looking out for my best interest.
That’s why I pray!

A good Sunday to you as well, John. Great comment! In my estimation, not only does God never tire from hearing from us, he looks forward to the fellowship. It’s no different than our kids – we want them to come to us with their fears, desires, victories, and failures. “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” Luke 11:10 (KJV). The “eth” on the end of ask, seek, and knock is a third person present singular suffix which means it’s a continuing action. It was written many years ago, but still applies today. We are to be continually asking, seeking, and knocking for God’s guidance, love and mercy in order to present ourselves as “a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God”. Sometimes “no” is just what we need to hear, even when “yes” is what we want. The most difficult thing for us to realize sometimes is that no answer is not a yes or a no, but a “wait on my (perfect) time”. In my opinion one of the most important things I add to my prayers is “not my will, but yours be done, Father”. In the end, I just want to do the will of the Father, even though many times I fall short. 😉
